I Don't Want to Go to Preschool, the Fairy Queen Calls
2022 Mom’s Choice Silver Award Winner!
“It is difficult to find literature that is both appealing to my students and embodies principles of inclusion and social emotional learning, but this one fits the bill. I Don’t Want to go to Preschool: The Fairy Queen Calls is a delightfully magical story with a diverse cast of characters that allows me to engage my students in conversation about the challenges and emotions that they experience in their own lives. This is definitely a story I will use again and again to help smooth the transition to a new grade level and all the changes that come with it.” Leanne Olson, Elementary School Teacher
Cynthia Obrien’s book carries an important and positive message for parents and children alike; changes and new schools can be intimidating, but these experiences offer ways to grow, learn, and have fun. I Don’t Want to Go to Preschool will encourage and comfort any young child with concerns about going to school. Lula Pix and the Tooth Fairy help children to overcome their fears by concentrating on the fun and joy of learning. The preschoolers are encouraged to think about and repeat all of the things that they are looking forward to doing at preschool. I think this book will be very helpful and calming for children to focus on what they will enjoy doing, instead of their worries or concerns. Melinda Facal, Readers’ Favorite
Thank you for the opportunity to read your book. I thought it was an adorable modern fairy tale. The story addresses the concerns of young children facing their fears and learning to enjoy new experiences in a playful and engaging manner. If only we could all solve our problems with the help of a clever granny and a magic wand! The whimsical artwork adds to the story through a diverse set of characters that all children can relate to. I especially loved the "Get-To-Do" list which presents new opportunities in such a positive light. Thank you for sharing your story with me! Kim Schmit, 5th Grade Teacher
Thank you for this fun and imaginative book. I have a 2-year-old granddaughter who will be going to pre-school soon. The Get to do list is going to be so helpful for her. I especially like the part where Granny is also a magical being. Hopefully, she will believe that her granny can do magic, too. We will enjoy reading this together. The first thing to make an impression should always be the cover of a book and this one is very eye-catching. I like that the characters are of different races and abilities. The first part of the book threw me a little because I had not read any of the other books. But as Granny was given her magic wand and summoned to the queen, I began to like it better. Granny picked up the Tooth Fairy on her way to the Fairy Queen. The illustrations were wonderful. When the baby elves told Granny and the Tooth Fairy, the two fairies put together a "Get To Do" list. The little ones could see what fun adventures they will have in pre-school. What a wonderful idea--a "Get To Do" list instead of a list of don'ts! This is a great book for a child who is a bit apprehensive about leaving home for the first time. It's also good for those children who can't wait to get there. It is important that children know that everyone doesn't feel the same way about leaving home for the first time. Kelley, Goodreads
